The Day of Pentecost is the Greek rendering of the Hebrew 'Hagha-Katzir' or festival of reaping, harvest of grain. Word means fiftieth day. "When the day of Pentecost arrived, they all met in one room. Suddenly they heard what sounded like a violent, rushing wind from heaven; the noise filled the entire house in which they were sitting. Something appeared to them that seemed like tongues of fire; these separated and came to rest on the head of each. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak in other languages as she enabled them." (Acts 2:1-4) "This is what Joel the Prophet spoke of: In the days to come - It is Our God who speaks - I will pour out my Spirit on all humankind. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young people will see visions, and your elders will dream dreams. I will pour out my Spirit on my servants, both men and women and they will prophesy." (Acts 2:16-18) The first Pentecost after Jesus Christ's ascension was the time of the recorded coming of the Holy Spirit Baptism upon his disciples and immediate followers. The Day of Pentecost is a gathering of spiritual powers for the purpose of harvesting the first fruits of the Spirit - a dedicating of these new forces of Spirit to unselfish service in the world. Metaphysically it is a time when that which we have meditated on and accepted comes into consciousness as a living reality in our life, rather than just mental concepts. In the growth or awakening of our spiritual mind when something suddenly springs into our conscious mind we can call it 'a light bulb moment' - 'a revelation' - 'an awakening' - when we get the fruits of the ideas that we've planted with a rush of energy / power / spiritual force from higher realms - and it fills us and we are empowered. They were all together in one place - when we concentrate all the faculties and activities of mind and body in acknowledgment and praise of Spirit something happens. The result of this is that the ordinary thinking mind (conscious mind) and the super conscious ;mind (perfect Christ mind) blend and there is a descent of spiritual energies into the body and the house is filled. On the day of Pentecost the disciples were thought to be filled with wine. How many of us have ever been drunk on the Spirit? Think about how so many people are running after that 'high experience' but using chemicals that will only cause problems. The stimulate of Spirit builds up the mind and the body instead of tearing them down and each day there is some new joy. The ultimate result of this outpouring of Spirit is that the disciples (faculties of mind) receive new power to express Truth (speak with other tongues / languages) and go forth empowered. When our thoughts are gathered in the upper chamber (a place of high spiritual understanding) and are unified in thought and purpose (prayers) we receive the gift of gifts - the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Our part is to focus / gather our thoughts together - in one place - a high place - a place of worship and unify them / our thoughts / our self in prayer. The Spirit does the rest! We are empowered with gifts of the Spirit and we produce fruits of the Spirit.
